It’s hard to believe it’s been three years since I uploaded my first, tentative post. I didn’t know if anyone would ever read it. I thought it quite possible that I would put up half a dozen posts then realise that the whole thing wasn’t really me. That was three years ago and since then I have made 167 posts – just a little over one a week on average.
Today, in honour of my third blogiversary, I’m going to come out and say it…
I want presents!
If you think that was in bad taste, then wait a minute longer because I’m going to tell you exactly what I want.
I would consider it a fantastic gift if you could spend a few minutes today correcting text on the National Library of Australia’s Trove newspaper site. You don’t even need a login to do so, just search for an item of interest and correct away. If you happen to find something relevant to your own research in the process, then consider that my gift to you.
Thanks for your support and encouragement. Every comment counts! I’m looking forward to the next year of blogging.
I'll happily give you that present. My policy with trove is that I try to correct the article or notices above and below those I am looking at....every little correction makes a difference.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, to one of my favourite geneabloggers, on your Blogiversary. I always enjoy your insightful posts. Long may they continue.
Thanks Jill. I usually try to correct the surrounding surnames when I'm looking at family notices, especially if the OCR for the page is bad.
DeleteCongratulations Shelley and thanks for all your blogs but especially the Oz Day collaboration ones. Can I settle for tagging some more on the British Newspaper Archive site?
ReplyDeleteLook forward to another year of your posts.
Thanks Pauleen. Tagging articles on the British Newspaper Archive site would be acceptable!
DeleteYou might have to settle for two weeks of sporting games in your honour!
ReplyDeleteJust for me?! Wow!
DeleteHappy Blogiversary! Am registered on Trove & my current ranking is 1144 but my best is 934. Have found family material from before I was born!
ReplyDeleteBefore you were born, hey?! Golly! :-)
DeleteHappy Blogiversary!
ReplyDeleteYou have presents from me. I love Trove and correct regularly, today's corrections are in your honour!
Thanks Helen, much appreciated!
DeleteHappy Blogiversary Shelley. I've corrected some Trove text for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks Aillin, what a lovely gift!
DeleteHappy Blogversary Shelley ... your wish is granted. I've corrected another article on Trove.
ReplyDeleteThank you Alona, what a thoughtful gift! ;-)
DeleteCongrats and consider yourself gifted! Will spend the rest of the evening Troving and correcting.
ReplyDeleteThanks Fi, I certainly feel very gifted now!
DeleteMany happy returns on your blogiversary. I love Trove, just like you, and have done some corrections just for you. It's a great policy to try and correct when you read something - as long as you don't get carried away with what you are reading and forget! :)
ReplyDeleteThe best part is that you can then cut and paste the text to use how you want! Thanks Tanya!
DeleteHappy Blogiversary. I will certainly check out the Trove site.
ReplyDeleteRegards, Jim
Genealogy Blog at Hidden Genealogy Nuggets
Thanks Jim, it's a must-visit site for anyone with Australian connections.
DeleteHappy Blogiversary Shelley. More than happy to do some corrections at Trove. I'm working my way through the pioneer obits I find. Congratulations on a great blog, now I'm off to Trove...
ReplyDeleteMerron
Thanks Merron! I always keep an eye on your pioneer posts, in case there's someone there of interest to me.
DeleteHappy Blogiversary Shelly! I have spent time over on Trove in the past making corrections but it has been awhile, so I will jump on today and gifted you some more :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Tray, much appreciated. Every bit counts!
DeleteHappy Blogiversary Shelley. I've never celebrated my blogiversary before so I looked up when I started blogging today and it was 26 April 2005 so I'll have to wait 'til next year to celebrate. And I will certainly correct some more articles on Trove for you!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kylie, seven years is a fantastic effort. I look forward to celebrating your 8th next year!
DeleteCongratulations on your third blogiversary, Shelley. It was a great idea to ask us to correct text on Trove. I concentrated on fixing the names of fathers of illegitimate children (which I will also add to the relevant list on my Web site).
ReplyDeleteThanks Judy, hopefully someone will find information that would otherwise have been hidden behind the OCR.
DeleteCongratulation on your blogversary. I spend too much time on Trove and now the Women's Weekly is there I am hooked - what a rich seam. I hope you all find family in their Social Jottings - plenty of wedding snaps.
ReplyDeleteHere's a hint for copying their digital images and text: use your computers Snipping Tool.
Find it via your Search box. when you click on it, a button will land on your bottom toolbar. You can then copy any text or image on your screen and save it as an image.
Shelley, I liked your idea ("I want presents") so I did something similar for the 3rd birthday of my Queensland Genealogy blog.
